Vancouver’s West End has long been a nucleus of the city’s culture. With restaurants, cafes and bars lining every street, just steps away from some of the most beautiful natural sites and hangout spots in the province, it’s hard not to fall in love.

The Jervis, an upcoming development from Intracorp Projects, is looking to bring the vibrant West End culture to a whole new generation of residents.

We checked in with some Vancity Buzz staff to learn more about their favourite spots in the West End.

“Kintaro is good, cheap, hearty ramen with lots of options. The restaurant itself is small and bare-bones, but it’s always tasty and comforting. Be warned – there’s always a line-up.” – Lauren Sundstrom, Staff Writer

“Biking around the West End, and especially along English Bay, is so relaxing, and it’s always such a serene sight. With the open water, it’s the perfect place to be for a good sunset. It’s actually so breathtaking on the perfect day, when the sun is feeling extra vibrant.” – Haneu Kang, Digital Account Coordinator

“The waffles packed with sweet, drizzled Nutella, fruit, whipped cream or savoury cheesy waffles are like little drops of heaven! The only way to make it better would be having your favourite warm beverage with you… which they also offer. So, it is perfection.” – Harpreet Shergill, Community Relations Manager

The Sylvia Hotel

“In terms of architecture, I’d have to say that the Sylvia Hotel right by the water on English Bay tops my list. There’s so much charm and character with this building, and it’s well preserved. There are also these vines that wrap around the facade and the leaves change colours every fall season. It’s a bit surreal.” – Kenneth Chan, Deputy Editor

Delany’s Coffee House

“Delaney’s is basically the homiest coffee shop I’ve been to in Vancouver. When I have visited the location on Denman Street, it is full of locals who are often known by name by the staff, deliciously comforting baked goods, and a selection of sweet hot and cold drinks. They are well-known for having amazing hot chocolate topped with chocolate whipped cream. You also have to try their grilled paninis. The Cajun chicken, cheddar and pesto panini is literally perfection.” – Jill Slattery, Staff Writer
