On September 8, Gastown’s Salt Tasting Room will kick off a month long “San Sebastián Experiment.”
Banding together with local specialty food vendor Bosa Foods, the popular charcuterie and wine room will offer free tapas to patrons of the restaurant (just as they’re offered in tapas bars all over Spain), when they order a glass of wine, beer, or sherry, from 3 to 6 p.m.
Prompted by Bosa’s acquisition of a premier line of Spanish products, purchased on a recent trip to Spain, Salt Tasting Room will dish up a variety of creative small bites and plates, based on the culinary culture of Spain’s Basque country.
Patrons will be able to sip on their preferred beverages, while they snack away on Spanish delicacies, such as mixed olives, white anchovies, six-month aged Manchego cheese, bone-in Serrano ham, Salchichon Iberico and chorizo sausages, and marinated calamari rings.
“I am really curious to see how Vancouver responds to this kind of tapas-style program,” said Sean Heather, owner of Salt Tasting Room, in a release. “Will guests come for drinks and accept this kind of free tapas experience – will they embrace the concept the way it’s embraced in Spain? Either way, the San Sebastián Experiment is a great opportunity to try some delicious Spanish-style tapas in a unique format.”
Salt Tasting Room will offer their San Sebastián-inspired dining from September 8 to October 11.
UPDATE: Salt Tasting Room has extended the San Sebastián Experiment! They’re still running through October 11, but its newest iteration begins October 12 and runs through November 8. Seatings taking place Tuesdays to Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m, and all day Sunday and Monday from 4:00 p.m. until late. Tables of six and under can enjoy the San Sebastián Experiment.
