Our lives are busy and we all have obligations that consume most of our days – work, school, family and other commitments take up our lives and leave very little time for us to do something for ourselves.

New Vancouver startup Misebox (meez-box, taken from the phrase Mise en place) is looking to inspire thousands of Vancouverites to take back a vital part of their day and learn an essential skill that’s been lost over the decades. It’s time to start cooking again, Vancouver, and Misebox is looking for your support on Kickstarter.

Misebox is a meal-kit service that caters to how you personally like to eat and each week they will prepare a unique menu that fits your profile at an affordable cost.

Whether you’re just too busy to find the time to buy groceries or recipes each night, or you want to follow a specific diet, or you simply don’t have experience cooking, Misebox is designed for you.

The core value behind Misebox is to solve two problems we have in a first world country:

Misebox

Misebox

Getting people to cook often and minimizing food waste. In Canada, there is $31 billion of food wasted annually, and more than 50% of that comes from households. This is because we value shop at grocery stores and rarely take the time to plan out how every last ingredient will be used up. Meanwhile, more than one billion people in the world are suffering through a hunger crisis at some point. With each meal that is purchased after the Kickstarter campaign is over, five hungry people in third-world nations will be fed through the World Food Programme (WFP).

Misebox has had one initial proof of concept launch in 2014 to test the market, and after months of market research and product development, they are ready to launch full scale.

If they reach their $100,000 Kickstarter goal by November 1, they will be able to lease a fully equipped kitchen space and operate for six months, which will allow them to gain proof of the business and, eventually, their own production facility.

Learn to cook, save time and waste less – it’s simple and socially conscious. To help bring Misebox to life, visit their Kickstarter campaign and pledge your support.
