Another police stand off in Metro Vancouver on Friday ended with the arrest of a 45-year-old man who allegedly attacked two people living in the basement suite of his shared home in East Vancouver.

Vancouver Police say they were called shortly after 10 a.m. this morning when a 25-year-old man was seen walking down an alley near East 43rd Street in Vancouver covered in blood. He then entered a nearby business on Fraser Street and was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

When police arrived at a nearby home, they found one man had barricaded himself inside the house. Police then engaged him in a two-hour long standoff before he surrendered.

Police say that investigators believe the man, a tenant in the upstairs level of the house, attacked two people living in the home’s basement suite. Another 49-year-old woman was also found with serious injuries inside the home and was taken to hospital.

The alleged suspect could possibly face two counts of attempted murder. He is previously known to police.

Meanwhile in Burnaby earlier on Friday, RCMP dealt with a shooting inside a home on Frances Street, coincidentally with a similar unfolding of events. Shortly before 7 a.m., shots were fired on the 3800 block of Frances Street and Esmond. Police arrived and found one man had been fatally shot and the suspect was barricaded inside the two-storey home.

After brief negotiations, RCMP entered the home where the suspect was allegedly shot by an officer. Another upstairs tenant in the home was evacuated without issue.

There is no word on whether the two similar events were related.
