Wet and windy conditions are expected in Metro Vancouver on Sunday, according to a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada.

Beginning in the morning, residents in the region should expect strong southerly winds before the arrival of a storm. Wind speeds near 60 km/h in the Lower Mainland and coastal sections along the Strait of Georgia are in the forecast.

In the afternoon, the winds will quickly change direction, blowing from the northwest, and pick up to speeds of as high as 70 km/h. This drastic change will occur when the low moves inland, making way for an intense cold front over the region.

“Unlike the August windstorm, winds are expected to remain below warning criteria at this time,” the statement reads. “However, the public should be prepared for windy conditions.”

The North Shore mountains will see 25 mm of rainfall while areas south of the inlet will see lesser amounts. Temperatures will reach a high of 18°C.
