This week’s search for two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette has come to a tragic end as RCMP in Alberta have found human remains belonging to the toddler.

The young girl was taken from her home in Blairmore, Alberta early Monday morning and an Amber Alert was issued Monday afternoon. Shortly after, police identified her father, Terry Blanchette, stabbed-to-death in his home.

Earlier today, RCMP confirmed they had arrested a 22-year-old man in relation to the abduction and the father’s death, stating they had also located the white van the suspect was allegedly driving. However, the child was still missing.

RCMP held a press conference tonight to confirm reports.

“The RCMP extends its deepest condolences to Hailey’s family. This is a sad day for the citizens of Blairmore and all Canadians who have held this little girl in their thoughts and prayers since Monday,” RCMP Superintendent Tony Hamori, Assistant District Officer in Southern Alberta, said in a release. “We can’t say much about the investigation at this point, other than to thank the public and the media for helping us find Hailey.”

RCMP said Hailey’s body was found in a rural area in Blairmore and the suspect in the case is in custody and charges are pending.

The Alberta Emergency Alert system officially called off the Amber Alert for Dunbar-Blanchette at 9:20 p.m. Mountain Time.
