Walking through the Fort Langley cemetery, the sun slowing setting and an eerie quiet settling all around. The Grave Tales walking tour in Fort Langley is a haunted walk through the town, replete with story and intrigue.

The group stops at an obelisk grave marker and the guide, Aman, begins to tell a story. It’s a goosebump-inducing historical tale, a story about a former Fort Langley resident gone ghost.

Meticulously researched, Parks Canada canvassed the town 10 years ago to find out what kind of spooky tales were lurking in the histories of local families. Expecting to hear about a dozen stories, they got thousands of responses after going door-to-door. Tabulating the most common tales, they used this local flavour to create their walking tour.

Nine years later, the annual Grave Tales event continues to takeover Fort Langley throughout the month of October, selling out every year. They have added more tours this year in anticipation, including an extended adults-only tour running from 9 p.m. The tours include a walk around Fort Langley, with periodic stops for stories, as well as an independent part at the end of the tour where guests can explore the Fort on their own or sit by the fire and continue to hear about the haunted parts of the town.

Parks Canada offers both adult-only tours as well as family-friendly tours, with the family-friendly tours recommending children be at least five years old. As the tours happen in the evening outside after dark, it is recommended that everyone bring a warm jacket (or coffee). The tour includes a good mix of walking and stopping and wraps up at the Big House in the Fort.

This tour is great for dates nights, family outings as well as anyone who wants to feel like a tour guide in their own city. After learning about all the haunted locations in Fort Langley, you can bring your friends and tell them all about what happens at the Little White House!
