The Vancouver Police Department has issued a notice about the arrest of an English tutor who allegedly touched at least one of his students inappropriately.

Seventy-year-old Christoper Jon Adams was arrested and charged with one count of sexual interference and has now been released under conditions while he waits for his next court appearance. Police say Adams, who may be known by other names, was hired to teach a 12-year-old in Vancouver’s West Side neighbourhood. The student had moved to Canada in 2013.

Prior to coming to B.C., police believe Adams lived and worked in Ontario. They also have reason to believe he has ties to the local Chinese Canadian community. Adam advertised his tutoring service online and in Asian-language newspapers as well as through word-of-mouth.

According to the Criminal Code of Canada, sexual interference is when a person touches, directly or indirectly, with a part of the body or with an object, any part of the body of a person under the age of 16 years for sexual purposes.

Because investigators believe this young student is not Adams’ only victim, any students or parents who know or have worked with him are asked to contact police at 604-717-0602.
