It seems more and more startups are cropping up every day in Vancouver, but according to a recent ranking published by Compass, things have been a lot better.

Vancouver dropped nine points from the 2012 Global Startup Ecosystem Index, taking 18th place, between Toronto and Amsterdam.

Based on over 200 interviews conducted with entrepreneurs in 25 different countries, as well as 11,000 surveys with companies like like CrunchBase, Deloitte and Dealroom, the report ranks a city’s startup economy based on criteria such as Performance, Funding, Market Reach, Talent and Startup Experience.

The top three spots went to Silicon Valley, New York City and Los Angeles.
