We’re taking a tasty tour of Vancouver’s many brunches to create The Ultimate Vancouver Brunch Guide. This week we’re indulging in a delectable late-morning meal at Coal Harbour’s Tableau Bar Bistro.

Weekend brunch at Tableau Bar Bistro is exactly what brunch should be — relaxed and delicious. Now open for brunch on Saturdays as well as Sundays, Tableau Bar Bistro, located at 1181 Melville Street, offers brunch enthusiasts a variety of tempting breakkie plates in a beautiful and chic setting.

Offering an updated take on traditional French bistro fare, prepared by Executive Chef Marc-André Choquette and his talented team, Tableau’s brunch menu features an array of enticing, well-crafted dishes, which include a basket of daily baked pastries ($12), spice buttermilk French toast ($16), Croque-Monsieur and Frites ($14), Eggs Benedict ($16), Le Grand Tableau (a classic breakfast plate of eggs, bacon, sausage, honey ham and potatoes — $16), creamy plump mushrooms on toasted brioche ($18), and an egg white frittata ($14).

Also featured on the bistro’s brunch menu is the wildly popular Chicken and Waffle ($16). Comprised of tender buttermilk fried chicken strips and a light, golden waffle, this dish is mouthwateringly good. The chicken is crisp, moist, delightfully seasoned and matched perfectly with the dish’s two accompanying potted sauces, maple syrup and gravy, which when mixed together create the perfect sweet and savoury combo.

In addition to Tableau’s brunch staples, the restaurant also rotates a tempting list of brunch specials, which include a breakfast poutine of brisket, green onion and poached eggs ($16), a plate of deliciously thin crepes ($16), and more. Filled with a vanilla basil Chantilly cream and topped with a cherry basil compote, Tableau’s crepes are a great way to start (or end) your meal as you settle in for a morning of indulgence.

As for things to sip on, Tableau serves 49th Parallel coffee, loose-leaf tea, and fresh squeezed orange juice, in addition to morning cocktails, including Tableau’s exceptional Bacon Caesar (made with house-made bacon infused vodka and Clamato juice) and the refreshingly light brunch libation, 1181 (a gin based beverage mixed with elderflower, lemonade and sparkling wine).

When it comes to Tableau’s interior, careful consideration has gone into the design. The restaurant oozes French sophistication, which has been achieved by combining old world classic bistro elements simply with modern touches. The room boasts dark paneled walls, black-and-white checkered flooring, shiny brass finishes, framed artwork, a sleek bar, and ample seating both inside and out. If you’re not able to grab a seat on the patio, you can choose to sit inside at the bar, an individual table, or a plush booth.

Showcasing an assortment of well-executed French-inspired brunch plates, friendly service, a warm ambience and a sunny patio, Tableau Bar Bistro is an excellent choice when it comes to choosing somewhere to enjoy a leisurely weekend brunch. Unlike other downtown brunch establishments Tableau does, in fact, accept reservations, so unless you plan to visit at 10:30 a.m. or soon after it’s best to call ahead and book a table.
