Team Canada, represented by Winnipeg-based Archangel Fireworks, has won this year’s Celebration of Light fireworks competition.

According to organizers, coming in second place was Brazil on Wednesday night, which was another spectator favourite. Meanwhile, China landed third place for its show last weekend.

A panel of judges determined the winner by evaluating six criteria: size and scale, overall design and artistry, synchronization, originality of effects, quality of soundtrack, and quality of fireworks.

Approximately 500,000 people watched this year’s final show around English Bay, with 400,000 people on the downtown peninsula’s beaches and another 100,000 people at Kitsilano. This was the largest attendance of the three nights, bringing this year’s total attendance to over a million people.

Apart from the usual fines and liquor pour outs, no major incidents were reported to police.

This year, the Celebration of Light – formerly known as the Symphony of Fire – celebrated its 25th anniversary. Here’s a compilation of photos and videos of fireworks and crowds during Canada’s night:

The show put on by Canada last night was incredible and not just because of the stunning fireworks. The weather was perfect, with Mount Baker turning pink after sunset and then a huge, orange moon rising behind the Lion’s Gate Bridge and Stanley Park half an hour later. The mountain was still barely visible when it became dark. More photos coming tomorrow hopefully, including a panorama! #nikon #canada #vancouver #pnw #vancity #exploretocreate #explorebc #celebrationoflight #longexpoelite #hot_shotz #explorecanada #phototag_longexp #natgeotravel #vancitybuzz #instagoodmyphoto #georgiastraight #imagesofcanada #welltraveled #shareyourparadise #fireworks #lazyshutters #fireworkshow #skyline #huffpostgram #huffpostcanada #yvr #viawesome #westcoast_exposures #theworldshotz #604
