Harrison Hot Springs might be a choice summer destination for people wanting to get away from Vancouver, but don’t let the name fool you.

Harrison Lake, a popular tourist destination in the community, is fed by glacier water and is dangerously cold. Two young men, Gary Duong, 25, and Daniel Reid, 23, died in the lake nearly two months ago on one of the hottest days of 2015 due to the low temperatures.

Now family and friends of the pair have made a public service announcement warning tourists of the potential dangers of the lake.

“It’s advertised as a place that’s safe, and it’s not,” says one man in the video.

“It’s a big lake and it moves and acts like an ocean almost.”

“It could happen to anybody. They were both strong swimmers. It doesn’t matter who you are, that water’s dangerous,” says a young woman.
