One of the most successful customer loyalty programs in Canada, the Cineplex SCENE membership in which movie goers earn points for every film they see and can later redeem for free movies, is changing how many points are required to see certain screenings.

As it is currently, members earn 100 points per movie they see at a Cineplex theatre using their SCENE card. When their balance reaches 1000 points, they can receive a free movie ticket to any movie at any price point – including 3D, UltraAVX and the VIP theatres. As of November 4, customers will now need more points for more expensive movie tickets.

The number of points earned when purchasing one general admission ticket will remain at 100 and those tickets will continue to require 1000 SCENE points to redeem. A “Premium” movie ticket, for films in 3D, UltraAVX, IMAX and D-Box will now require 1,500 points and will earn customers 150 points. The VIP Cinemas tickets will need 2,000 points and earn customers 200.

The current system is particularly rewarding for customers who wish to purchase some of the costliest movie tickets. Until November 3, SCENE members can still purchase items like D-Box UltraAVX tickets (worth $23.99), UltraAVX 3D (worth $17.25) and VIP (worth $18.99) with only 1000 SCENE points.
