Surrey RCMP are warning community members of at least eight drug overdoses in the last 24 hours.

Eight people were taken to hospital in the last day after ingesting heroin and overdosing, requiring immediate medical attention and at least three instances of extreme life saving measures, according to police.

RCMP are unsure if this is from one certain batch of the drug, or if it is in fact heroin at all. They say the drug has not yet been analyzed to determine its makeup, but users thought they were ingesting heroin.

All of those treated for overdoses are now recovering, but RCMP are taking the opportunity to warn drug users of this present threat.
