New Westminster okays first permanent food truck parking spot

In New Westminster, food truck fans have found themselves hungry for a permanent spot to find their favourite roaming four-wheeled restaurants. Now the city has approved a pilot program which will permit a food truck to park outside a local brewery, and it could start in a matter of days.

Jackie Teed, New Westminster’s manager of planning, told 24 Hours Vancouver that one food truck at a time can park and serve outside Steel and Oak Brewing Company at 1319 Third Avenue.

Steel and Oak was considered the optimum starting spot, since the popular brewery regularly welcomes food trucks on their private property. The brewery welcomes guests to bring in outside food to enjoy with their beers.

Food trucks that frequently stop at Steel and Oak in New West include Tasty Torpedo, Disco Cheetah, and GYPSYtrunk, among others. The brewery is excited to welcome new trucks to the spot, too.

The pilot program could start as soon as next week, and is slated to run through the end of 2015.
