Ladies, you can finally let loose. August 23 is international Go Topless Day, which means you can unstrap that bra and let it all hang out in support of equal constitutional rights for women and men.

Although topless ta-tas caused quite a stir in Vancouver last year, bare-breasted women will boldly march on Robson Street from Denman to Hornby this year on Sunday, August 23 from 1 to 3 p.m.

According to GoTopless.org, when you free your breasts, you free your mind. It’s no coincidence that this celebration (or protest, depending on your location) is right around Gender Equality Day. Going topless isn’t just to even out your tan lines, it’s also to rally for women’s rights.

“As long as men are allowed to be topless in public, women should have the same constitutional right. Or else, men should have to wear something to hide their chests,” said Rael, also known as Claude Vorilhon, founder of GoTopless.org and Raelianism, a U.S.-based UFO cult who also advocate for equal constitutional rights for both sexes to go bare-chested in public.

The titillating thing is, men often walk around shirtless without a second thought yet women have to suffer through a lifetime of confined and constrained cha-chas.

Women are legally allowed to be topless in Vancouver but this freedom is rarely practiced because of social stigma. That’s why the organizers of this event are taking a stand to highlight this taboo.

In some parts of Canada, under section 173 of the Criminal Code, public nudity is forbidden. The language outlining this law is vague, which leaves the definition up to the judges to interpret. The offence is considered to be small but if convicted, you can face up to six months in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.

So ladies, take advantage of the one day when your bosoms can bounce freely down the streets of Vancouver.
