A powerful overnight windstorm in Metro Vancouver caused tree branches to fall onto power lines, causing thousands to go without electricity during one of the warmest nights of the year.

According to B.C. Hydro, approximately 10,000 customers in Burnaby, North Vancouver and West Vancouver were affected by the outage, which began just after midnight at most locations. At this time, roughly 3,000 customers are still affected.

Crews have been working throughout the night, and will continue to work this morning, to have power restored by 10 a.m.
