The Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration (VIBC) Society is throwing a backyard party for the entire city. The 11th annual City of Bhangra Festival concludes their 10-day festival with a two-day, open-stage free party with non-stop bhangra and entertainment in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

The festival shines a light on Metro Vancouver and the unique position that this folk music and dance form has in the city. With this year’s theme of #BhangraLove, we can embrace the fact that regardless of race, gender, religion or sex, we can all unite through this beautiful art form.

From a Finnish Bhangra band to Bollywood workshops to the best bhangra teams in North America, you’ll see it all at VIBC’s Downtown Bhangra.

Shava, a band from Finland whose music has its roots in the soil of India as well as the concrete jungle of East-Helsinki, are set to take the stage, along with U.K. singing sensation Jaz Dhami, trained in Indian classical music and armed with a music technology degree.

Bhangra teams from New York; Washington, D.C.; California and Metro Vancouver will showcase the beautiful art form over the two days. The VIBC Society strives to create cross-cultural collaborations, therefore, the Orr Vancouver Israeli Dance School will also be performing along with Portland’s DJ Anjali. With a name like Gitanjali (“song offering”), DJ Anjali was destined to play records and she will perform alongside her partner, The Incredible Kid.

In addition to the amazing performers mentioned above, Vancouver’s biggest Celtic-Punjabi fusion band, Delhi 2 Dublin will also be performing in the heart of the city. Over the years, the group has released eight amazing albums, seizing the power of cultural fusion and becoming one of the most talked about bands in the country.

About VIBC

Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration produces a wide-range of events with the objective of increasing community engagement, artistic innovation and education. Through the joy of bhangra, we help build bridges and find inroads to establish new relationships across genres of performance and ethno-cultural boundaries.

VIBC accomplishes this by producing the 10-day City of Bhangra Festival in unique venues across Vancouver and Surrey, and by producing meaningful events throughout the year. They engage with communities, organizations, and artists year-round to help spread the art of bhangra.
