23-year-old charged in random murder of grandmother

Metro Vancouver’s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has announced murder charges against a 23-year-old man in relation to the altercation between a man and a woman Wednesday evening that left one elderly lady dead.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., New Westminster Police officers responded to a serious incident at the 1500 block of 8th Avenue near 15th Avenue. Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the body of a deceased woman. A male was also arrested.

IHIT is now confirming the suspect arrested is 23-year-old Julien Levasseur, a resident of New Westminster. He is being charged with second degree murder in what appears to be a random attack.

The causes and circumstances of the death are not known as the investigation is still in its early stages.

According to News1130, the woman was a grandmother of a student at Lord Tweedsmuir Elementary.
