Vancouver’s food events calendar for July is packed with a bounty of deliciously fun food-centric outings, featuring pop-up restaurants, BBQ driven festivals and more. With so much going on we have compiled a list of upcoming food-related events happening in the city this July.
Railtown Tailgate Summer BBQ Series
In celebration of summer and Vancouver’s fine barbecue weather Railtown Cafe has re-launched their streetside Tailgate Summer BBQ Series. Kicking off last month, Railtown Cafe will host their next Tailgate event on July 4, where they will once again offer ticket holders the opportunity to enjoy a range of expertly cooked grilled meats.
Railtown Cafe’s chefs and co-owners Dan Olson and Tyler Day will fire up their custom-built, 12-foot smoker/barbecue barrel from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m and dish up heaping plates of 35-hour Texas-style slow-smoked brisket, applewood pork shoulder, beer-brined Fraser Valley chicken, jalapeño cornbread, plus a choice of enticing side plates, which include: creamy potato salad and Farmers’ Market field greens.

Pinxo & Txakoli – Pop-up Basque Pintxos Bar
On July 10, Chef Jefferson Alvarez and Txotx Basque Imports are joining forces to transform East Van’s Propaganda Coffee into a traditional Basque Pintxos Bar. Offering a tempting range of small bites and plates, as well as Txakoli (a light, effervescent white wine) and sidra (an acidic and funky cider) in between bites, this pop-up bar is sure to leave attendees feeling not only satisfied but also as though they’ve just spent the evening in the Basque Country.

Parking Lot Series at Red Truck Brewery
The second of four outdoor summer concerts hosted by Red Truck Brewery will take place on July 11. Featuring musical acts such as, The Trews, No Sinner, Rich Hope, Ice Cream Social DJS, and a variety of Red Truck Beer and food trucks, Red Truck Brewery’s Parking Lot Series is sure to be a great and lively event. As the name of the event suggests the concert will take place in the Red Truck Brewery’s outdoor parking lot.

Greasy Spoon Diner
Save on Meats’ pop-up Greasy Spoon Diner Supper Series continues in July, challenging yet another notable Vancouver chef (or rather chefs in this instance) to take over the kitchen and serve a dining room full of guests. Next in line to step into the Save on Meats kitchen are Chefs Ned Bell and Sean Murray of YEW seafood + bar at the Four Seasons. This event benefits programs that support the local community.
When: Tuesday, July 14. Seatings at 5:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Celebrate Bastille Day at Bistro Pastis
Bistro Pastis invites diners to celebrate Bastille Day, on July 14, with a storm-worthy price fixe menu. In addition to the carefully planned three-course feast, which features an array of French inspired fare, Bistro Pastis will also host live entertainment, with French chanteuse, Pepper Really, leading guests in a rousing rendition of La Marseillaise.

The Taste of Terroir Dinner
To celebrate the International Year of Soil and B.C.’s beautiful terroir, Edible Canada chefs Alvin Pillay and Sarah Stewart will join forces with UBC Botanical Garden to help host their ‘Taste of Terroir’ dinner party. Guests to this outdoor event will not only get to enjoy an evening of wine, music and delicious eats but also learn first hand about how soil and climate influence the flavour and quality of our food. To demonstrate this, chefs Pillay and Stewart will be preparing a gourmet family-style dinner featuring only the freshest, locally-grown ingredients.

Il Mercato Italian Market
Vancouver’s Farmer and Italian Night Market continues this July at the Italian Cultural Center in East Vancouver. The market, which is host to an array of food vendors selling all manner of Italian cuisine, brings together the flavours of Italy with fresh produce grown locally, in addition to delicious food prepared by Il Centro’s chef and handmade products from local artisans.

Peruvian Street Meat and Ceviche Summer Party
On July 18, Chicha Restaurant, on East Broadway, will host an all-you-can-eat Peruvian summer party. With an outdoor barbeque, Chicha Restaurant will be grilling and serving an array of popular Peruvian street meats, while indoors they will be dishing out classic ceviche with lime and cilantro from a Peruvian ceviche bar. There will also be a DJ and a range of drink specials too.

Veg Fest Vancouver
Veg Fest Vancouver returns to Granville Street on July 19, for its fifth consecutive year. Starting at noon and running along the 1000 block of Granville Street, between Nelson and Helmcken, the Veg Fest encourages vegans, vegetarians, pescetarian and omnivores to join together to support vegan food vendors, animal protection organizations and local businesses.

Tea Sparrow’s First Annual Iced Tea-Off
Satisfy your tea cravings by sampling and scoring sixteen different iced loose-leaf teas from Germany, Canada, and the U.S.A., at Tea Sparrow’s first annual Iced Tea-Off. Endorsed by some of the world’s leading Tea Sommeliers, Tea Sparrow (North America’s first monthly tea club and critiquing company), will bring together a varied selection of top-rated, high-quality and chemical-free teas from featured tea blenders from around the world, for this one-day-only event.

Sunday Seafood Boil Series
Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar marks their first year in operation with a Sunday Seafood Boil Series. Taking place on the restaurant’s wrap-around patio, Boulevard’s talented chefs will prepare and present a fresh-caught selection of crawfish, jumbo prawns, clams, mussels and Dungeness crab, served in a traditional East Coast-style seafood boil piled high on butcher’s paper. With a limit of 24 seats at each event, diners are encouraged to reserve their seats in advance.

Belgium Day at Chambar
In celebration of Belgium’s National Day, Chambar is set to host a feast fit for kings. To mark this momentous occasion on July 21, Chambar will be serving a medieval style, hands-on, communal dining experience. In keeping with the evenings medieval nature, vegetarian options and cutlery will not be available. While guests are encouraged to adorn themselves with costumes and fur they are not essential.

Brewery and the Beast
Brewery and the Beast is back for 2015. This outdoor, meat-focused event will take place rain or shine on July 26 and feature a line-up of local chefs from around the city, preparing and cooking the highest quality meats. In addition to serving a range of roasted, barbecued, smoked edible delights, Victoria’s own Phillips Brewing Company, will offer a varied selection of their award winning beers. More highlights of the event include live music by The Electric Timber Company & Guests. Tickets are sold out, but stay tuned for some last-minute chances to get a hold of some passes from the event.

WildTale Coastal Grill Crab Boils
Yaletown’s, WildTale Costal Grill will launch their monthly Crab Boil this July. Taking place on every Sunday of the month, starting July 26, WildTale will encourage patrons to adorn themselves with a bib and pick up crackers for a full-on feast of crab, mussels, prawns, clams, sausage, corn and potatoes. Meatwave at Homer St. Cafe & Bar
Meat-lovers take note. On the Last Friday of every month Homer St. Cafe and Bar invites diners to try their Southern-style feast, Meatwave. Comprised of brined rotisserie chicken, BBQ pork ribs, beef brisket and cured pork belly, Homer St. Cafe and Bar’s Meatwave menu is sure to satisfy any BBQ craving.
In addition to the kitchen’s expertly roasted meats, Meatwave also features, BBQ chickpeas, pickles, watermelon, and cheddar and jalapeño corn bread, which is perfect for soaking up the kitchen’s irresistible homemade BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce is so good you’ll want to bottle it up and take it home. Meatwave does sell out, so grabbing a table before 8 p.m. is recommended.
