Forest fire burning near Squamish

Squamish’s Elaho Valley is enveloped in smoke Monday morning as an unconstrained wild fire burns in the area.

As of 10:45 a.m., the fire spread 15 hectors in size and is zero per cent contained. Crews expect the fire, first detected Sunday morning, to grow throughout the day.

At this moment, officials suspect the fire human-caused.

Heavy smoke has now filled the Squamish Valley region and has drifted as far south as Horseshoe Bay. Air quality is currently at a level six, meaning a moderate health concern. Those with lung conditions should avoid outdoor activities if experiencing symptoms.
