Police are investigating after a young woman was sexually assaulted and attacked in her Westside home Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred 6 a.m. Wednesday at a home in the area of West 22nd Ave. and Macdonald St. A 21-year-old woman was asleep in her bed when she awoke to a stranger on top of her attempting to assault her.

The victim fought the suspect away and ran from the home, calling 9-1-1 immediately after. Police arrived and conducted a search of the neighbourhood but could not locate the suspect. He remains on the loose.

Police are now looking for an Asian man between 20 and 30 years old with a medium build. At the time of the attack he was wearing dark clothing and a mask over his head.

The victim did not suffer any injuries from the attack but is understandably distressed.

The Vancouver Police Department will have investigators in the area this afternoon searching for evidence related to the assault.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the VPD Sex Crimes Unit at 604-717-3117 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
