Crime scene police tape murder

The latest shooting in Metro Vancouver involves a police officer who responded to a report of a disturbance at a Burnaby residence.

At approximately 1:47 a.m. on Wednesday morning, RCMP received a report of an unwanted individual in a home on the 500 block of Clare Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, they found a male wielding a knife. The suspect was described by police as “non-compliant with police directions” and subsequently shot by officers. The suspect was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has since taken over the investigation and have collected forensic evidence at the location, including the knife possessed by the suspect. The RCMP is still responsible for the investigation on the actions of the alleged suspect and the circumstances of his actions.

“The IIO Forensic Specialist will work with the RCMP to ensure all physical evidence is collected from the scene,” reads a statement by the IIO. “At this point in time, the IIO can confirm that the physical evidence includes an edged weapon that has been located and will be recovered.”
