Residents of an apartment complex at Hamber Place and Mount Seymour Road in North Vancouver have been displaced following a large fire that erupted through their building Thursday evening.

The fire began before 8 p.m. and a plume of rising smoke was seen as far away as Vancouver.

District of North Vancouver firefighters were assisted by West Vancouver fighters. At this time, there is no word of any injuries but the fire was quickly contained and extinguished.

Along with severe water damage, the roof of the building was destroyed by the fire. Firefighters tweeted that a single engine aimed 1,250 gallons of water per minute at the blaze, which is equivalent to filling 50 full bathtubs every minute.
