One person dead in New Westminster collision

New Westminster Police are reporting one person has died after a fatal collision between a commercial vehicle and a motorcycle.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. Friday morning, the New Westminster Police responded to a motor vehicle incident at the intersection of 12th Street and Stewardson Way.  One person has died as a result of the accident but police are not releasing any more information about the deceased at this time.

This intersection will be closed for several hours while Collision Analysts conduct an investigation. The NWPD is asking motorists traveling through New Westminster to find an alternate route until further notice.

The effected routes are as follows:

  • Eastbound Stewardson Way is re-routed up 3rd Avenue to 12th Street;
  • Southbound 12th Street is re-routed eastbound Queens Avenue;
  • Westbound Royal Avenue is re-routed northbound on 11th Street;
  • Westbound Columbia Street  is re-routed eastbound on Royal Avenue;
  • Commercial Vehicles traveling westbound on East Columbia Street are asked to avoid Front Street by continuing westbound on East Columbia Street and turning northbound up McBride Boulevard to 8th Avenue.
