Central City, the Surrey-born brewers behind Red Racer beer and other local craft brew favourites, is opening a brewpub in downtown Vancouver.

The location is the space last occupied by Dix BBQ & Brewery at 871 Beatty Street.

Central City’s sales and marketing guy, Tim Barnes, said the restaurant will be “a celebration of beer,” offering guests great food and a dynamic atmosphere with a laid-back style.

Barnes says the brewpub, which will be aptly named Central City, will provide customers with an approachable atmosphere–t-shirts and jeans welcome–and the chance to either make new friends at bench seating inspired by old beer halls, or have a more intimate table for a date and a great meal.

The location is prime for post-work drinking and snacking, or pre-game or concert hanging, considering its proximity to major venues.

There will be 40 taps, of which Central City will take a share, and the rest going predominantly to other B.C. craft brewers.

On the menu diners will find BBQ, in part an homage to the prior tenant, as well as suggested beer and food pairings. Barnes says the brewpub will have a knowledgable staff who can help guests make decisions about which of the many brews to try.

“The focus will be on creating a great experience where you can go and enjoy yourself and feel like you’re at home, and feel like, walking in there, that it’s not pretentious,” adds Barnes.

Central City will open sometime later this summer.
