A new ranking has placed Vancouver as one of the world’s most promising economic and investment locations in the Americas.

Financial Times’ fDi Magazine’s latest list of the best North and South American cities for foreign direct investment ranks Vancouver at number 8 overall – against 421 other cities in both continents.

New York City and San Francisco dominated the list and Toronto was the only other Canadian city in the top 10, ranked 6th.

However, Vancouver topped fDi’s separate ranking for best ‘large’ North American cities while neighbouring Seattle took second place. In addition, B.C.’s economic capital and largest city was named in several other top large North American cities categories for economic potential, connectivity and business friendliness.

Three other Metro Vancouver municipalities also made the rankings. Langley and North Vancouver were ranked fifth and sixth for top ‘micro’ North American cities of the future. Surrey claimed the fifth spot for the connectivity ranking of ‘mid-sized’ cities.

Across the Strait of Georgia, Victoria was named seventh for FDI strategy and ninth for human capital and lifestyle on the ‘small’ North and South American cities level.
