Over the past two weeks, eligible voters across the region received their mail-in ballot for the Metro Vancouver Transportation and Transit Plebiscite.

Although the deadline to submit your completed ballot is May 29, ballots have already begun to arrive at Elections B.C.’s return address.

If you’re still holding onto your ballot because you’re still on the fence, consider voting ‘Yes.’ Here are some reasons why you should vote yes from a local hockey legend, renowned environmentalist and an ordinary citizen:

Vancouver Canucks’ Kirk MccLean

For every home game for the Canucks, the Whitecaps, and the BC Lions, thousands of fans jump on buses and the SkyTrain to get downtown to get to the arena or stadium. Kirk knows that the best way to get to the game, and to get home from the game, is on a great transit system.

David Suzuki

The single biggest thing you can do to fight climate change in Metro Vancouver is to vote yes in the upcoming transit referendum. He believes huge change can be made with just a small effort.

Surrey resident Baljinder Jagpal

Baljinder Jagpal is voting ‘Yes’ for more early morning and late night bus service. She lives in Surrey and drives into work in Vancouver every day because there isn’t enough bus service in the early mornings and late at night.

In summary: Voting ‘Yes’ means big benefits for Metro Vancouver

Over the next 30 years, Metro Vancouver will grow by one million people. Your ‘Yes’ vote will provide better roads, improved public transit including more night buses, and safer walking and cycling.
