Residents in South Vancouver are being asked to be on the lookout for a large black bear roaming in their neighbourhood.

UPDATE: The bear has been tranquilized and will be relocated.

Vancouver Police received multiple reports this morning of a black bear walking in the streets near East 49th Avenue and Tyne Avenue, just west of Burnaby’s Central Park.

Conservation officers and police are in the area looking for the bear.

This is the second bear spotting in Metro Vancouver neighbourhoods in just days. On Sunday, a bear was tranquilized after it was seen playing in the fields at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park.

Bears are rarely spotted in the city of Vancouver. Previous sightings have usually occurred near Hastings Park, where bears are known to swim across the second narrows of Burrard Inlet.
