‘Parks and Rec’ alum and funny-man Aziz Ansari will be co-creating and starring in a new comedy series for Netflix.
Netflix has already ordered 10 episodes of the show, starring Ansari along with H. Jon Benjamin (‘Bob’s Burgers’), Lena Waithe (‘Dear White People’) and Eric Wareheim (‘Tim and Eric’). According to Deadline, the series was co-created with fellow ‘Parks and Recreation’ producer Alan Yang and will be executive produced by Ansari, Yang, Michael Schur, David Miner and Dave Becky, all from the ‘Parks and Rec’ team.
For fans of Ansari’s stand-up comedy and style, the good news is that the show “features semi-autobiographical elements and deals with dating and relationships,” according to Deadline. The bad news is that there is currently no set release date, but the show is filming in New York at the moment.
For those unfamiliar with Ansari’s work, the comedian already has two specials on Netflix, Buried Alive and Live at Madison Square Garden. The 32-year-old’s film credits include I Love You, Man, Get Him to the Greek and This is the End, but he is more prominently known for his seven year-stretch as Tom Haverford on ‘Parks and Recreation’. He also popularized the term “treat yo self”.
Best Aziz Ansari quotes (according to Vancity Buzz):
“You can’t call anybody anymore. If you call someone, they be like: ‘What? Are you on fire? Then quit wasting my time, text me that shit.'”
“I’ve never seen a ghost myself, but it would be interesting if I did. I live in a newer building, so I think it would be modern ghost… I would wake up and there would be a ghost standing over my bed, just like, ‘What’s your Wi-Fi password?'”
“My perfect date night: I pick you up. In my Kia Sorrento. You get in. There’s candles in the car. You go ‘Is that dangerous?” and I go, Yes… but I like danger. We go to your favorite restaurant, and we have a fantastic meal. We come outside and we see my cars on fire. You go, “Aziz, your cars on fire. Aren’t you upset?” I pull out a bag of marshmallows and I go, No. I knew this was gonna happen. And then I kiss you. In front of my burning car.”
“I’ll text a girl, she text me back right away, I text her back right away, she text me back right away, I text her back right away, she text me back right away, I text her back right away, she text me back right away. Then I’ll say something like: “alright cool, you wanna get pizza on Tuesday?” And I don’t hear anything.”
“Most people would say ‘the deets’, but I say ‘the tails’. Just another example of innovation.”
