South African comedian Trevor Noah will be Jon Stewart’s replacement on The Daily Show, Comedy Central announced Monday.

Noah, a 31 year-old comedian from Soweto, Johannesburg, is the top comedian in Africa and now an international name in the comedy circuit. He is known to American audiences from several appearances on ‘The Daily Show with Jon Stewart’, ‘The Tonight Show with Jay Leno’ and ‘Late Show with David Letterman’.

“Trevor Noah is an enormous talent. He has an insightful and unique point of view, and most importantly, is wickedly funny,” said Michele Ganeless, President of Comedy Central. “For the next host of ‘The Daily Show,’ we set out to find a fresh voice who can speak to our audience with a keen take on the events of the day, and we found that in Trevor. He has a huge international following and is poised to explode here in America, and we are thrilled to have him join Comedy Central.”

Noah’s comedy specials in South Africa include ‘The Daywalker’ (2009), ‘Crazy Normal’ (2011), ‘That’s Racist’ (2012) and ‘It’s My Culture’ (2013). He also starred in a one-man comedy show ‘Trevor Noah: The Racist’ which sold out at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. More recently, Noah performed for the Royal Family at the Royal Variety Performance.

His comedy will bring an international perspective to the late night scene.
