Who doesn’t love spring skiing? The soft and slushy snow, the tight and bright one piece suits, the goggle tans and the zinc. But there’s more, isn’t there? It’s the vibe. The energy. The comradery and the excitement of ditching a few layers to soak up the rays sans Gore-Tex. Maybe it’s a celebration of the winter season soon to expire, or maybe it’s to welcome and usher-in the warm temperatures of a not-so-distant summer. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s both – and that’s pretty cool.
So how do you make such a remarkable experience even better? How about a couple of Canada’s top bands performing for free on an outdoor stage, at the base of Canada’s second largest ski area? Tokyo Police Club and Mother Mother are set to blow the doors off Sun Peaks’ natural amphitheatre March 27 to 28, as part of the Dew Tour AM Series. Adding to the festival vibe, some of North America’s top ski and snowboard talent will be throwing down, bringing their biggest bags of tricks to the slopestyle and big air courses for a shot at major cash prizes. Throw into the mix a pile of DJs, giveaways and a resort-wide party and you’ve got one stacked weekend! This is the second year running Sun Peaks has hosted the Dew Tour AM Series, a testament to the spectacular event venue as thousands gathered to watch The Sheepdogs perform.
Recognizing this passion for the spring skiing experience and to offer another week of refuge for the otherwise snow-starved skiers and riders of the Pacific Northwest, Sun Peaks’ alpine and Nordic seasons have been extended until April 12 to take advantage of the remarkable spring conditions the resort’s location and altitude provide.
And winter’s just the start, summers in Sun Peaks have been ramping up with huge outdoor concerts boasting names like Burton Cummings, Blue Rodeo, Kevin Costner and the Modern West, and Arkells, and national level events such as Reebok Spartan Races and the Canadian Downhill Mountain Bike Championships, both returning this summer. Countless recreational and leisure activities compliment the jam packed events calendar; B.C.’s highest elevation 18-hole golf course, lift-accessed Bike Park as well as sightseeing and hiking, and North America’s first Mountain Cross Cart course to name a few. Surrounded by picturesque lakes in virtually every direction, be sure to add Sun Peaks to your getaway hit list!
