Overnight incidents in Surrey: fifth shooting and fatal hit-and-run

Surrey’s first responders were busy throughout the night with two major but separate incidents.

Fatal hit-and-run

During the early morning hours, an individual was killed in an apparent hit-and-run near the Pattullo Bridge, according to CTV. The victim was rushed to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster, but later succumbed to the incurred injuries.

Bridgeview Drive from King George Boulevard and Highway 17, near the south end of the Pattullo Bridge, is closed to allow the police to investigate.

Few details are available at this time.

Fifth shooting in Surrey since Tuesday

Surrey RCMP are also investigating the municipality’s fifth targeted shooting since early Tuesday morning.

At approximately midnight, a 28-year-old Langley male with serious gunshot wounds was dropped off in the 19200-block of 80th Avenue. Global BC reports that local residents assisted the man, who was apparently shot in a vehicle at another location. No gunshots were heard at the time of the victim’s drop-off.

The victim is known to police and was sent to hospital for treatment.

This follows four other targeted shooting incidents that have occurred since Tuesday morning:

  • 4 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10
    • A 20-year-old man was dropped off at hospital with gunshot injuries. The man was treated and released from hospital.
  • 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10
    • Just before 7 p.m., a vehicle drove up to a 21-year-old man sitting inside a black vehicle parked near 127 Street and 78 Avenue. The suspect vehicle fired numerous shots, which severely injured the man and disabled his vehicle. A third vehicle took him to hospital.
  • 11 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10
    • Gunfire was heard within the vicinity of 128 Street and 76 Avenue. All individuals involved in the incident fled the scene before police were able to arrive. According to witnesses, there were four dark coloured vehicles leaving the area at high speeds.
  • 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11
    • Shots were fired in a residential neighbourhood near the intersection of 132nd Street and 80th Avenue. Shell casings were found in the area where a SUV was seen chasing another vehicle.
