Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services’ hazmat team is responding to an incident at the 500-block of Burrard Street, near the intersection of Burrard and Dunsmuir streets.

There are reports of a suspicious package, a strange smell and office workers feeling ill on an upper floor of the Bentall 5 building.

One woman was seen leaving the building with firefighters and paramedics on a stretcher.

Traffic on both directions of Burrard Street from West Pender to Dunsmuir streets has been closed as a precaution and to allow emergency services to set-up.

UPDATE at 12:45 p.m. – After conducting tests inside the building, the Hazmat team determined that the substance found inside a suspicious envelope is not toxic. Emergency responders have begun the process of vacating the area.

Nothing like a “suspicious package” to shut down part of Burrard. #fridaythe13 #suspiciouspackage #almostvacation
