Weekly App Pick: Afterlight

Afterlight

There’s an overwhelming amount of apps out there (approximately 1.3 million for Android users and 1.2 million in Apple’s app store with around 75 billion downloads and 300 million views a week). But how do you know which ones to download? Which ones are worth paying for? How to differentiate between Google and Apple maps? Airbnb or Hotel Tonight? Tinder or Bumble? We’re in search of answering these questions and each week we’ll be bringing you our weekly app pick.

There are a number of photo-editing apps out there. So, how do you pick the right one for you? Personally, my three favourite boil down to these: VSCO Cam, Snapseed, and Afterlight. However, I’m awarding Afterlight with the trophy and here’s why:

VSCO Cam

What’s most attractive about VSCO Cam, besides it’s photo editing capabilities and unique interface, is the selectivity of the app’s layered filters. The app is equipped with ten filters that allows users to customize based on a 1 to 12 scale, weakest to strongest. When it comes to photo-editing, sometimes less is more and VSCO Cam optimizes on this principle. Users likely won’t be overwhelmed by the selection as the app has certain limitations when it comes to variety. Sharing capabilities: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Weibo and more.

Snapseed

The devils in the details. What Snapseed lacks in impressive filters it makes up for in powerful editing tools and enhancing capabilities. Snapseed makes photo editing easy with a range of tools to improve the quality of your photos. Update like a pro with editing features including brightness, ambiance, shadows, contrast, etc. Sharing capabilities: Google plus, Email, Instagram, Twitter, and more.

Afterlight

The best of both worlds. The clean interface is both aesthetically pleasing and simple to navigate. What VSCO Cam and Snapseed are missing in filtered options, Afterlight makes up. This feature combined with formidable editing tools pushes the app ahead of its counterparts. The app filter system includes over 70 distinctive filters paired with easy and quick adjustment, cropping and transformation tools. Sharing capabilities: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus and more.

Afterlight 2.7, the latest version available on iOS 8 and Android, has seen the app release their latest filter-pack “Wander” bringing users fifteen new filters. The filters are carefully selected, each one fully adjustable and crafted to maximize photo enhancement. The app also boasts 78 natural textiles designed to give photos an organic and unique look as well as 125+ easily scalable custom frames. Quick image scaling allows for the option of small, medium, or max once the photo is edited, conveniently allowing users to scale their photos within the app.

Why you should download it

Diversity with quick and straight forward editing. Afterlight gives users the freedom to express their creativity and look like a pro. The 15 adjustment tools along with 74 distinct filters (27 adjustable original Afterlight filters, 14 guest filers from various Instagram users, 18 season filters, and the new Wander pack) give Afterlight the edge to stand out in the crowd. $1.19 for Afterlight photo-editing app. Upping your insta-game, priceless.
