Tim Hortons has launched an internal investigation after receiving allegations that a restaurant employee dumped a bucket of water onto a sleeping homeless person and his dog outside a downtown Vancouver location.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday outside the restaurant at Robson Street near Richards Street (463 Robson Street) next to the IGA grocery store.

Peggy Morrison, who witnessed the incident, told the CBC that water was not just thrown at the homeless man: “He poured it underneath so the blankets and consequently the dog and the man were both soaked. The [homeless] man jumped up. He was obviously shouting. The dog looked shocked and they started moving all of their stuff around the corner to the entrance of the IGA, which is where they remained.”

The alleged Tim Hortons employee also poured the remains of the bucket water under another homeless man sleeping on the other side of the door. He then proceeded to sweep beverage cups, cardboard and garbage away from the storefront.

There is mounting pressure on Tim Hortons to take action after the incident went viral on social media. This includes a post by Morrison’s colleague, Arianne N. Summach, which has already received more than 3,000 shares to date:

CALLING A BOYCOTT: The manager of TIM HORTONS on Robson and Richards, literally just dumped a very large bucket of water all over a homeless man (and all his worldly belongings, cardboard bed included), for sitting out front of the shop. He was sleeping when it happened. I can’t believe how disgusting some people are! Please share.

Summach also Tweeted her complaint to Tim Hortons and received a response that the company would look into the matter:

On Saturday, a spokesperson with Tim Hortons responded to CKNW, saying “We take these matters very seriously and as such we have launched an internal investigation”.
