Save On Meats is launching a pop-up dinner series called The Greasy Spoon Diner that will match up a guest chef with a local brewery or distillery for an evening of “diner” food and fundraising.

“A well known and loved chef will be challenged by one of his peers to come up with a four course (including desert) Diner Menu,” explains Save On Meats’ Mark Brand. The chef on the spot will take over the kitchen for the night to cook for two dinner seatings, which will each have room for 80 guests.

Not only is the one-time-only meal a special draw, but the guest chef will pair with a local craft brewer or distiller, who will make a special libation to pair with the meal. The chef will also get to bring their own bartender in for the night, and with them their own specially-crafted drinks menu to match the meal.

There’s one more very important match: The Chef and the cause. The guest chef will choose from the existing A Better Life Foundation programs to support, and those program heads will give a brief talk at both services about what they do. The chef can pick multiple programs, should he or she choose.

“100% of every penny in the door for the diner goes to said charities,” notes Brand.

At the end of the night, the chef will challenge a peer to take on the next month’s Greasy Spoon Diner night.

“Our first chef is Scott Jaeger of The Pear Tree Bistro and B’ocuse Dor/Gold Medal fame,” says Brand. “He’s the real deal and I couldn’t be prouder to kick off with him putting aside his tweezers for a spatula.”

Jaeger will take over at The Greasy Spoon Diner the night of March 9, 2015. Seatings are at 5:30 and 8 p.m. This is a rare chance to get a fine-dining champion chef’s take on things like a meatloaf and a crumble.
