Canuck Place Children’s Hospice is hosting their inaugural Gift of Love Gala at the Ramada Plaza Abbotsford on Saturday, February 7.

Canuck Place recently opened their second provincial hospice location in Abbotsford and 2015 proved to be the perfect time to launch a gala in the Fraser Valley, where over 46 per cent of the children and families on the Canuck Place program reside.

The Gift of Love has already seen a huge amount of support from the community, selling out more than three weeks in advance.

Hosted by Breakfast Television’s Riaz Meghji, guests can expect an evening filled with fine dining, entertainment, auctions and remarks by Canuck Place parent and Fraser Valley resident, Amanda Sidhu.

“Thank you to the more than 300 donors, partners, sponsors, and supporters of Canuck Place who will gather and celebrate living in the moment,” said Margaret McNeil, Canuck Place CEO.

“The illness and death of a child is life-altering for families, and a journey no family wants to travel alone. That is why Canuck Place exists. What we learn from the children and families on our program has great meaning for our supporters. The event brings the room together around a common thread and purpose. How do we live in this moment and live it well with a loving heart?”

A highlight of the evening will be when Canuck Place mom, Amanda Sidhu shares with guests the journey of her daughter, Kaitlyn.

Presented by Aldergrove Financial, Envision Financial and Prospera Credit Union, all funds raised will support the delivery of specialized pediatric palliative care for over 560 children and their families throughout the province.

“We are very excited about the partnership between our three credit unions in support of Canuck Place Children’s Hospice,” said Bruce Howell, President and CEO, Prospera Credit Union.

“We know Canuck Place makes a very real difference in the lives of families facing the crisis of a life-threatening illness and by working together, we are able to maximize our support for this outstanding organization.”

“Canuck Place Children’s Hospice in Abbotsford is located on the Campus of Care next to Abbotsford Regional Hospital and currently offers community-centred services for families in the Fraser Valley.”

Canuck Place completed construction on its second provincial location in 2013 on the Campus of Care next to Abbotsford Regional Hospital. Currently in the second phase of its four phase opening plan, the Abbotsford hospice is offering community-centered services to children and families in the Fraser Valley. Once fully operational, the new facility will double their current capacity to 18 patient beds and nine family suites.
