Bus crashes into hydro pole in Richmond, thousands lose power

Thousands of residents living in Richmond’s southern neighbourhoods lost their electricity Saturday morning after a transit bus crashed into a B.C. Hydro pole at the intersection of No. 3 Road and Steveston Highway.

A Coast Mountain Bus company operated bus crashed into the pole at 9:17 a.m., causing approximately 5,000 customers within the area from No. 3 Road to No. 5 Road and Blundell Road and Steveston Highway as well as south of Steveston Highway to lose their power.

According to B.C. Hydro, as of 4:30 p.m. there are still 762 customers without electricity. Crews are working to restore power to all affected customers by 7:30 p.m.

At the time of the crash, there were no passengers inside the bus, but the driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.
