The freshest addition to South Granville’s coffee scene is celebrating its two month anniversary this week. Bump n Grind Café opened for business on December 18, 2014, bringing a spectacular array of quality coffee, baked goods and other treats to the neighbourhood.

The new location at Granville and 14th is Bump n Grind’s second in Vancouver. Cheryl and Kyle Wright have owned Commercial Drive’s Bump n Grind Café since 2011, and over the years have established its reputation as one of the best cafés in the city. Their carefully-chosen sequel space fills a niche in its new neighbourhood, according to Mr. Wright.

“This location is perfect for us because we wanted to bring Bump n Grind to a vibrant community-oriented neighbourhood and South Granville is just that,” says Wright. “The only thing missing in the area is a great place to hang out serving good coffee and food. We hope to fill that gap.”

The café curates a changing roster of coffees from across Canada, including Victoria’s Fernwood Coffee and Calgary’s Phil & Sebastian. Brewed coffees are served using a variety of methods, from pour-over to French Press. “We rotate our coffees on a weekly basis,” says Cheryl Wright, “so you get to try something new and fresh each time you visit.”

A delicious selection of goods are baked in house to pair with the quality coffees. Standouts include the sensational Earl Grey Shortbread, the Matcha Green Tea Brownie, and the Mookie, which is the light, fluffy love child of a muffin and a cookie.

The space itself is stunning; it’s not surprising to learn Tetherstone Construction was behind the design. Tetherstone’s Dallas Matson has created a host of other gorgeous interiors around the city, including Chambar, Revolver, Matchstick, PiDGiN and many of the JJ Bean locations around Vancouver.

The minimalist details in the new Bump n Grind create a clean and welcoming space, accented by strong wooden elements in the angled light fixtures and wall paneling. Best of all, a custom shelving feature stretching across the space spells “Bump n Grind” in a whimsical but functional fashion.

A welcome addition for neighbourhood folk and worth the journey for all Metro Vancouverites, Bump n Grind Café in South Granville is a bright new star in Vancouver’s growing galaxy of winning coffee destinations.
