Don’t miss out this Saturday on what is sure to be a memorable night. SPOON + SHOVEL is hosting their first in a series of long table pop-up dinners in a new space on Industrial Avenue. The dinner is complete with freshly made Pozole Mexican stew dinner, Vancouver’s own Postmark Brewing beer, a piñata and dancing.
SPOON + SHOVEL is a start-up dinner series that is all about celebrating local food and anchoring us to our community, cultures, traditions, seasonal offerings and our fellow humans. They focus on creating delicious seasonally inspired dishes using local farmers’ products.
For the inaugural dinner, they’ve partnered with Urban Digs, a small farm in South Burnaby proudly providing market vegetables, meat and eggs to both local families and to some of the top restaurants in Metro Vancouver. Focusing on sustainable agriculture and animal welfare, Urban Digs strives to build a healthy agro-ecosystem where people, animals and vegetables can work together to nourish bodies and our community.
The SPOON + SHOVEL team will be highlighting the amazing ethos of Urban Digs by cooking Pozole for dinner, a hearty Mexican pork stew that was traditionally consumed as part of ritualistic Aztec ceremonies. It includes an array of crunchy fresh toppings like radish, onion, cilantro, lime, oregano and tostadas. Creative Director Lauren Elbe, founder of Nuez Milk, chose to make a creative adaptation of this dish because it takes her back to the misty highlands of Chiapas where there are thousands of years of history behind the soup. There will be vegetarian options available.
