A video recorded on a mobile device of young men fighting in broad daylight at Abbotsford has surfaced. The video was submitted to OMNI TV last week and turned over to Abbotsford Police, which has since launched an investigation to determine the nature of the incident and the identities of those who were involved.

The footage shows a crowd cheering two young males engaged in a physical fight in the parking lot of the Sikh temple on Blueridge Drive. While the video was only recently made public, it is believed the incident occurred several weeks ago.

An object that appears to be a gun is seen lying on the ground at one point of the video. However, Abbotsford Police have stated that a similar gun was found on a residential lawn last weekend and later determined it was a pellet gun. It is believed this was the same device seen in the incident, which happened just a few blocks away.

Police have highlighted that brandishing such fake weapons could escalate such clashes, leading others to draw out knives and perhaps even real firearms.

The incident is likely associated with the ongoing “Townline Hill” conflict between two groups of young South Asian men between the ages of 15 to 25.

The “war” between the two groups is not drug or gang related, but it has resulted in tens of thousands of dollars in damage since it first began in May 2014. There have been more than two dozen incidents of property damage on homes and vehicles, including two vehicles that were set on fire.

CCTV cameras have been installed on streets where the young adults are known to gather, but police are still in need of the public’s help to report the incidents when they occur.
