A 15-year-old boy has succumbed to his injuries in hospital after being assaulted by a group of people early Saturday morning.

Just before 3 a.m., Surrey RCMP were called to the scene at the 15600-block of 18 Avenue after two teenage boys, ages 14 and 15, were allegedly attacked by a group of four or five boys.

The two victims fled to a nearby home in the area where police and emergency services were called. The 15-year-old was rushed to Peace Arch Hospital with critical injuries, but he later died at 10:20 a.m. The 14-year-old attained minor injuries in the assault.

Police are assisting the family of the deceased teenager during this very difficult time. The name of the deceased victim has not been made public.

No other information is available as the investigation is still in its early stages. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) will be conducting the investigation to determine the motive and identify all of the suspects involved in the attack. Anyone with any helpful information is asked to call IHIT.

As of today, there has been 16 recorded homicides in Surrey in 2014. On Wednesday, RCMP discovered the body of a child in the trunk of a vehicle in South Surrey. 41-year-old Lisa Batstone was promptly charged with second degree murder in the death of her eight-year-old daughter, Teagan.
