Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens trailer (VIDEO)

A long, long time ago… forget it, the wait is now over! After nearly ten years since Star Wars Episode III, fans can now have their first glimpse of Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.

Not much is given away in the 90-second teaser trailer, which features short shots of what appears to be Tatooine, a R2-D2-like robot, stormtroopers preparing for battle, Rebel Squadron fighters gliding over water, a lightsaber wielding Dark Jedi, and Han Solo’s Millennium Falcon spacecraft battling TIE fighters.

“There has been an awakening. Have you felt it? The dark side and the light,” says the voiceover by an unidentified voice. The famous Star Wars theme by John Williams is played towards the end of the trailer.

According to a LucasFilm description, the plot is set about 30 years after the fall of the Empire and death of Darth Vader.

The movie is directed, produced and written by J.J. Abrams, who was also responsible for the re-boot of the Star Trek film series. This will be the first Star Wars film under Disney’s control after it purchased LucasFilm from George Lucas for $4-billion in 2013. As part of the deal, Lucas promised to step away from the sequel’s production following the disappointment of the prequel trilogy.

The cast will include both new and familiar faces, such as the series originals: Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens has a budget of $200-million and is scheduled for release in theatres on December 18, 2015.
