Does the café close to your office know your sandwich order off by heart? Or, are you resorting to burgers and fries simply because you can’t think of a decent place to grab lunch? It may be time to add some new lunch break options to your repertoire. Here are 5 places to score a quick, healthy and delicious lunch in the city. Say goodbye to lunch bag let down.

tractor

1. Tractor

Think of this as your high school cafeteria without the coleslaw and mystery meat. At Tractor, you can choose from a wide selection of healthy, organic lunch options and enjoy them on the fly or in the beautiful eating space. For those of you on a budget, you don’t need to worry about breaking the bank here. My standard order— organic quinoa and half a grilled avocado, comes in at under $10. And bonus— you can choose from a small, but quality selection of wines and beers for Friday lunches, or “I’ve had a hard day” lunches.

culvercitysalds

2. Culver City Salads

Founded and ran by Vancouver native, Christina Culver, Culver City Salads serves up delicious vegan, gluten free salads from a little green food truck. The truck is currently located in Coal Harbour Tuesday- Friday, but you can track its location here. For those days where you can’t get away from your desk, Culver City Salads can come to you. You can order the daily entrée salad (for $10) through Foodee or Spoon. Hot tip— this delicious little salad company also makes a mean double chocolate chip cookie (and because they are vegan and gluten-free you can enjoy without any guilt!)

3. The Dirty Apron

Located in the Crosstown district of downtown, this lovely cooking school also has a gourmet deli that is sure to brighten up your workday. The deli serves unique sandwiches, salads and soups that you can take to go or linger over at a picnic- style tables. You can multitask and grab groceries for dinner and fresh flowers while you are at it! The Dirty Apron also does downtown deliveries. Orders can be placed online or over the phone. Their platters are a great way to ensure people will actually come to your noon meeting.

lastcrumb

4. The Last Crumb Café

While there are countless lunch spots on Main Street that are worthy of a visit, The Last Crumb Café is a current favorite that I can’t stop craving. Everything in this homey bakery is both preservative and artificial-flavoring free. Last Crumb does their take on a lunch staple with the “sconewich”— a delicious sandwich made on a freshly baked scone. If you are saying no to carbs, there are also beautiful salads and soups to choose from. You may even want to take a trip back to the Last Crumb on the weekend for tea or brunch.

5. Nuba

This is a lunch decision that I never regret. With various locations throughout Vancouer, Nuba serves healthy and fresh Lebanese fare. There are plenty of vegetarian and gluten-free options, and a varied lunch to-go menu for days when you are in a rush. When you have time for a more leisurely lunch, I would suggest ordering “Le Petit Feast” or “La Feast” if you have a date. These platters give you a taste for some Lebanese staples. Pass the humus!
