4 questions to ask to help get you out of your routine rut

You go to work, you come home, eat dinner, watch some TV… and do it all over again and again. Sometimes this routine of life can feel like its making you stuck and not moving forward. Work is a great routine to have but who are you beyond your work? If work was taken away and all you had was time, what would you do? It can be easy to get stuck in the routine rut but there are ways to shake yourself out of it and get on a path that is filled with joy and inspiration. Here are four questions to think about to get you started.

What do you wish you could do?

These moments of “I wish I could” are who you really are. We have this really good way of making our selves feel dumb for wanting to do what we want and giving ourselves reasons out of things that would bring us joy. Make time for those wishes and you’ll ignite that joy that may have been lacking from your day to day

What kind of person do you want to be?

We all have a vision of our “ideal” self yet we choose to just have that image play in the back of our minds instead of doing something about it. Just know that you are 100 per cent capable of being who ever you would like to be but you just have to find out how bad you want it because its going to take some work.

Do you really need to wait for that “thing” to get started?

We make ourselves wait to do what we want to be doing for no reason. We wait to go running until we buy ourselves the new shoes to go running in. Or we love to travel but wont travel in our own city. You don’t have to wait to start doing the things you want. There are small ways to start right away, you just have to get started and stop making excuses.

What are your strengths?

Rattling off a list of weaknesses is much easier for most people than to list their own strengths. This is about knowing yourself and really owning it. Knowing your strengths and finding out how to enhance them is a great start in understanding who you are and what unique talents you have to bring into this world. A good book suggestion for looking into your personal strengths is the “Strengths Finder 2.0.”

Work routines are great at providing our lives structure but if you are having a hard time finding inspiration in your routine start thinking about the questions above and see what is sparked inside of you.
