Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society today announced its family-friendly New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration slated for December 31, 2014, will be postponed to the following year due to lack of funding.

“We believe there continues to be the need for a significant, community celebration for New Year’s Eve in Vancouver,” says Charles Gauthier, Chair of the Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society. “While we couldn’t pull the funding together in time for this year, we’re hopeful additional community and corporate supporters will come to the table with funding over the coming year.”

The Vancouver New Year’s Eve Celebration Society is a non-profit community organization founded by local news, lifestyle and entertainment outlet, Vancity Buzz.

The intent of the event is to offer the thousands of Vancouverites looking for a centralized place to go on New Year’s Eve an inclusive celebration that includes live music, multicultural programming, entertainment, and fireworks.

Fundraising, planning and execution efforts are being led by the Society in partnership with event production agency brand.LIVE. The Society includes representatives from the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, PCI Developments Corp., Port Metro Vancouver, Tourism Vancouver, Starbucks, The Burrard, Vancouver Convention Centre, BDO Canada and Boughton Law Corporation.

The Society is also working closely with the City of Vancouver in the planning of the event.

“Vancouver’s vibrant festivals, parades, and major events throughout the year are a highlight for locals and visitors alike, but there is a definite need for a significant family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration,” says Mayor Gregor Robertson.

“The City continues to be ready to support the development of this new event and we hope more community partners will come forward to help make it a world-class success.”
