Earlier this afternoon, Haida Gwaii was shaken by a magnitude 4.6 earthquake with an epicentre located just off the archipelago’s western coast.

According to the US Geological Survey, the event occurred at 2:05 p.m. and was centred 143 kilometres south of the village of Masset. It had a depth of 10 kilometres.

This comes just two days after a powerful magnitude 6.2 earthquake hit Alaska. It was 129 kilometres away from Anchorage, but still powerful enough to cause minor structural damage and shelves and picture frames to fall.
