Hidden Gem in the West End: Morocco West

When you’re in the mood for something romantic and cozy, but also exotic and maybe a bit adventurous, head down to the West End and check out Morocco WestLast weekend, the Tangoo got a chance to take a trip to Morocco via our tastebuds. We escaped the dreary Vancouver weather, and visited this hidden gem, a Moroccan-European inspired restaurant in Vancouver’s West End.

Kevin Lin, the General Manager, and Nourdine Majdoubi, Executive Chef, opened this gem in May 2014. Since then, they have expanded their menu to include 20 tapas options – perfect for sharing. We tried a large portion of their tapas menu and were left wanting more.

About the food, Lin says, “A lot of the dishes are done with a European twist, like quail and rabbit, which you would find in Morocco, but not with the European flare we bring to the table.”

Chef Majdoubi is from Agadir, Morocco and has trained all over Europe, which led the restaurant to its name – Morocco West.

We especially enjoyed the Baba Ghanoush, Chicken Couscous, and the Honey Lavender Pannacotta.

  • The Space

    By Tangoo

Morroco West's clean lines and earth tones truly set the mood.

  • Hummus and Baba Ghanoush

    By Tangoo

This was the best way to start our meal. Warm bread with the best hummus we have ever eaten and the tastiest babaganoush this side of the Atlantic.

  • Morocco Style

    By Tangoo

We love spaces that have their own person decorations and art work – super personal!

  • Moroccan-style Quail

    By Tangoo

This quail was so tasty, but the pea risotta was like eating a dream!

  • Chef's Signature Baby Back Ribs

    By Tangoo

Sweet, salty, and fall off the bone. Topped with bacon jam, how can you go wrong?

  • Dim Lights Create the Mood

    By Tangoo

Outside – busy downtown. Inside – a peaceful and homey environment.

  • Chicken Couscous

    By Tangoo

We love the mix of flavours – crispy skin chicken with sweet, salty and spicy couscous. An all around meal.

  • Pipita Prawn and Scallop

    By Tangoo

Perfectly seasoned prawns atop lemon slices. This packed a punch.

  • Casual Dining in a Classy Environment

    By Tangoo

We love the extra touches that make this space casual and comfy but upscale and classy – the cucumber water was the best!

  • Moroccan-style Halibut

    By Tangoo

Not only was the halibut delicious but the lentils melted in your mouth.

  • Cherry Ricotta Strudel/Honey Lavender Pannacotta

    By Tangoo

We may have been so full, but this panacotta was lighter than air.

In the next few months, Morocco West looks forward to welcoming new customers to brunch and dinner. They will be competing in the Fish and Chip Challenge on Thursday, September and will be presenting new tasting plates on Wednesday, September 10. Keep an eye out for their menu during Dine Out Vancouver in February.
