A Vancouver Island fisherman is being credited for saving a worn out juvenile bald eagle from drowning after spotting the bird swimming in the middle of Nanoose Bay off Vancouver Island.

Video captured and published on YouTube shows the eagle having difficulty with keeping its head above water.

The eagle swims towards the boat upon seeing it, which was making a slow approach towards the bird. When the eagle reaches the side of the boat, the fisherman gently extended a net into the water and lifted the bird onto the boat.

Sitting on the net perched on the edge of the boat, it appears exhausted and grateful for the fisherman’s rescue. It then hops onto a table on the rear of a boat.

A few moments later, the bird of prey stretches its wings in an attempt to fly away, but fails and falls off the table.

It was taken to the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in Delta, where it will recover and be taught to hunt. At a later date, the bird will be brought back to Nanoose Bay for release.
